We
have a winner! 04.16.2001 |
| We have chosen our winner for the USA
Weekend Poster Contest and it is... Jack M. Spangler!
After many entries, and too many to decide based on your guys'
answer to our question, we've decided to randomly choose the
winner. You can take a look at his entry below:
"I am interested in the Pearl Harbor movie because I am a survivor. I was
stationed at Wheeler field and experienced the pain of this day personally.
This last December was the first time I returned for the anniversary of that
terrible day. It took me 59 years. Visiting the Arizona was almost too
much for me to bear. I felt guilty for surviving when so many
died."
He has also been kind enough to send us his complete story which
we'll be posting soon in our history section!

Love
Theme Song! 04.16.2001 |
| Looks like
there is now a theme song for the film. The song is written by
Diane Warren and will be performed by Faith Hill! It turns out
that Diane Warren has also written theme music for another Jerry
Bruckheimer film, so being asked for a second one, means that we're
in for a great theme song! The song is called "There
you'll be" and should be available on the upcoming
soundtrack. Thanks to 'benmcd2001' in our forums
for the news!

New
Official Site Released... Sorta! 04.11.2001 |
| The new official Pearl Harbor website
that's said to be, "bigger, better, more technologically
improved" has been released... or part of it. With
the previous site having an annoying way of navigating without too
much content, they've decided to split the site into three main
sections. Sound familiar? Well, without still featuring
the old site which is now called 'the experience', the other two
sections are 'film' and 'documentary'. Now, let me know if I'm
wrong, but doesn't this site have a 'film' and an 'event' with both
having the same ideas as the official site? But, wait, this
site has had this idea over a month before the official site
released it. Oh well, I guess it's just coincidence.
Well, the documentary section is not complete yet, but in the
mean time, you can check our 'event' section. And for the
'film' part of the site, you have to admit, they do have a lot of
pictures from the production and the film along with some sketches
and diagrams, but then again, what else would you expect from movie
websites now? They are pretty cool though, and I do suggest
that you check them out because they have quite a bit of them!
Then is their 'multimedia' section which has wallpaper to download
which really just seem like bigger version of their picture
galleries. The next feature they have are the 360 degree views
of different parts of the set which sounds cool, but which we'll
have to wait for until they complete it. That part reminds my
a lot of the Titanic website, in fact, the entire site reminds me a
lot of the Titanic movie website including the posters for the film
and even the film itself... And the last part of the 'film'
section is the 'sound fx' which sounds pretty cool, but in my
opinion, somewhat unneccessary. Anyway, I think the site is
worth checking out, to see all the cool picture, even though they
are kind of small, but cool none-the-less.
You can check out the site at www.pearlharbor.com.
This news item was in fact a bit more opinion-based along with
giving you the news item. This is to encourage you guys to
post your comments on the 'new' site and some of our future news
because we're really interested in hearing what you have in mind!

Minor
Delay! 04.09.2001 |
| A lot of you may have been expecting
to receive this week's newsletter, but have not gotten
anything. The reason is that because of a few problems, we
have not complete it yet. We were working on it all day
yesterday, but did not manage to complete it, so it will have to be
delayed until maybe Tuesday. We're sorry for those of you that
were looking forward to it, but there will be a little bonus in this
week's feature that will change the 'Telegram' a bit, so just check
your E-Mail on Tuesday for that.
Also, one of the features we were going to have early especially
for the newsletter, has been released and that is the second article
of our historian, Roger Hare's feature 'Pearl Harbor
Remembered'. This week's article is titled 'Who Was
Responsible?' and tells about all the scenarios on who was
responsible for the attack as well as having two diagrams that go
along with it. You can check it out in the history area of our
site or by clicking here.

Downloads! 04.08.2001 |
| The 'downloads' section has been
updated from the 'coming soon' status, to the 'there's actually
something on there now' status. It includes our first,
actually THE first wallpaper (as far as I've seen) of Pearl Harbor
the film. We've also scoured the internet to find the original
recording of FDR's infamous 'Day in infamy' speech and have found it
and have a wav file available to download too! So check it
out, and stay tuned for more wallpaper soon to come along with a
complete list of Pearl Harbor Trailers and commercials as well.

Affleck,
Baldwin, King! 04.07.2001 |
| Entertainment Tonight had some
information about Ben Affleck in Pearl Harbor last Friday and also
told about an upcoming interview in Premiere Magazine. In
their 'Newslink', they said, 'BEN AFFLECK's much anticipated new
film, 'Pearl Harbor,' is a war epic and a classic tale of love. In
the May issue of Premiere magazine, Affleck recounts his
experience on the film including being put in boot camp with real
soldiers training for war. Ben said the actors were treated the same
as every other recruit: they had to clean their guns, make their
beds and clean the bathroom with a toothbrush. The movie, which
co-stars KATE BECKINSALE and CUBA GOODING JR., opens May 25.'
Some of you may already know, but Alec Baldwin will be on Saturday
Night Live tonight, April 7th! Check it our on NBC
and you may also catch some new commercials for Pearl Harbor also.
AND, on Monday, James King, who is a nurse in the film, will be
on Total Request Live on MTV! So be sure to
catch that as well!
Lots of stuff beginning to happen for the film, so stay tuned to
this site for more soon to come!

New
Pearl Harbor Official Site! 04.06.2001 |
| Pearl Harbor's current official site
is said to be a preview of much better things to come. This
means bigger and better things, right? Well, if part of that
is better navigation and a better experience with the history and
the film involved, then it sure will be something to check
out. The designer for the site, John Textor, chief executive
of JesterDigital, talked about the new site in a recent Los
Angeles Times article. He mentions that on the new site,
which is due to open to the public next month, users will be able to
explore the Hawaiian harbor from the sea and the air, trigger videos
that reenact scenes from the surprise attack and possibly even chat
with survivors. This all sounds pretty nice and with a company
that was also co-founded by Michael Bay, maybe the site will finally
have something that can truly stand by the film. Next month
being near to the release of the film may be just in time to attract
some new audiences to the site and hopefully some new people to the
film as well, that is if all is done well. We don't mean to be
pessimistic on this one, but honestly, how much can you say about
the current site? Well, post your comments on what you have to
say about the current official film website and post your
predictions on what the upcoming one will be like based on the Los
Angeles Times article. Thanks to Filmforce's
Pearl Harbor site for that info.

To Come! 04.05.2001 |
| Even though it may not seem like
there have been many new updates recently, we have been updating
things subtly. We've modified the design of the site a bit,
modifying and adding some new graphics, fixing some problems with
some of our pages to be more cross-browser-friendly and... working
on two new sections to the site! Even though right now, there
is nothing there, soon our new 'production' and 'downloads' sections
will be full with stuff. Our production will feature stories
and pictures from magazines and on-line news sites on the production
of the film. And our downloads will soon have all the trailers
for Pearl Harbor, long-awaited wallpaper, and more goodies for your
computer!

Theater
Banners! 04.03.2001 |
| Coming soon to a theater near
you... Pearl Harbor banners! Well, it seems like
promotion for the film is going really well. Now in some
theaters, there are a series of two banners relating to the
film. One has Ben Affleck on one
side and Kate
Beckinsale one one side and the other has Josh Hartnett
on one side, and Cuba
Gooding Jr. on the other. They are in the style of 1940s posters for joining the
military and if they're not available in a theater near you yet,
they may soon be there. You can take a look at them by
clicking on the images below:

It's
Coming! It's Coming! 04.02.2001 |
| The countdown has begun (if you look
to the right, you'll see what I mean)! We're going into April
and that means that there are less than two months left before the
film is out! So we're working a lot on getting all the info
there is to this date on the film. We've just updated our
'recruits' section, adding Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer and
Randall Wallace to the crew pages. We've also added more
pictures in our 'media' area with some pics from on set in
Hawaii! And, the store now has more historical books added
along with two new books based on the film that you can pre-order!
And finally, our newest feature is here! If you've gotten
the first issue of 'Telegram: The Pearl Harbor Newsletter', then
you've already found out, but if not, you can now check out 'Pearl
Harbor Remembered', a weekly series of articles written by a
historian, exclusively to the history part of our site! Click here
to check it out or on 'The Event' link on the right and take a look

First
Contest! 03.28.2001 |
| Recently, there was a special poster
as an advertisement for Pearl Harbor in USA Weekend. Well,
after, finding how many of you guys out there missed that issue (or
didn't even know about it), we've decided to have our first contest
with the prize being that poster. This contest is some what
unexpected, so because of that, we only have one poster to give
away. However, don't worry, 'cause we'll soon have another
contest that will be better planned out and will feature more
prizes. But for now, here's what you have to do to enter for a
chance to win this poster. Just answer this question:
"Why are you interested in the upcoming film, Pearl
Harbor?". That's it, and all we ask is that you be
truthful in answering without some kind of fancy reason that you
think will impress us. So, take a look at the poster below
once more and submit your answer(s) to ovi@cinemenium.com.
Good luck!

Here
we are! 03.16.2001 |
| After a
while overdue, here it is. The brand new Cinemenium.com Pearl
Harbor website. We apologize for the delay, but we've been
hard at work with quite a few things prepared for Cinemenium.com and
this site as well... So, to get started, this is the film
section of the website. We currently have the latest
information on the upcoming film. We're also working on a
historical portion of the site. It will feature facts on what
took place on the day that has lived in infamy. We're
currently looking for historians out there that may be able to help
us with this and movie fans that may have some info on the
film and would to share it with us and the entire Pearl Harbor
community. So feel free to contact us at ovi@cinemenium.com. |
